Builders & New Construction Radon System Activation
You’re already adding in passive radon systems to meet code and buyer expectations. JC Radon Solutions partners with builders to activate those systems - adding the fan and finishing details, turning what's basically a pipe with no engine into a fully functional radon mitigation system that helps sell homes and reduces post-closing headaches.

Passive vs. Active Radon Systems for New Builds
Most new homes now include a passive radon system: a PVC vent pipe from beneath the slab up through the roof, with a basic collection point. This satisfies many code requirements, but it relies on natural air movement. In a significant number of homes, that simply isn’t enough to keep radon levels consistently low once the home is occupied.
An active radon system adds a properly sized radon fan, electrical disconnect and wiring, labeling, and performance verification. Think of the passive system as ductwork and the activation as adding the furnace. JC Radon Solutions focuses on that activation step during construction, helping spec and custom builders deliver safer, more marketable homes while avoiding post-sale radon disputes.
Why Should Builders Activate Passive Radon Systems During Construction?
Activating the radon system during construction gives builders clear advantages over waiting until a homeowner calls months later. First, it becomes a sellable feature - “Active Radon Mitigation System Installed" - that fits naturally with other healthy-home and high-performance upgrades your buyers already value. Second, it supports code and green-building compliance by going beyond minimum RRNC requirements with a documented, powered system that’s designed for long-term radon control.
Most importantly, early activation helps you avoid post-sale callbacks and disputes. Radon levels often rebound 6–12 months after completion as the home dries out and tightens up. A house that “passed” a short-term test at or near completion can fail a test a year later, leading to uncomfortable conversations about who should pay to fix it. When JC Radon Solutions activates the system before closing, radon becomes one less issue for warranty calls, buyer complaints, or three-way negotiations with realtors.
Radon Facts
Radon is a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas that can cause lung cancer if present in high levels in the home. The EPA estimates that radon is responsible for approximately 21,000 lung cancer deaths each year in the United States alone.

FAQ About Builders & New Construction Radon Mitigation
Let our JC Radon Solutions experts answer any further questions you may have about our services.
What is the “pipe with no engine” problem?
A passive radon system is essentially a pipe with no engine. The pipe is there, running from beneath the slab to the roof, but without a fan actively pulling radon from under the home, performance is inconsistent. On paper, the house has a radon system; in reality, it may not keep levels low enough once the home is occupied. Activation solves this gap by adding the fan, electrical, and final testing to turn that passive rough-in into a working mitigation system.
How does radon “rebound” 6–12 months after construction?
